Ballerina in motion

author

Enrico Prampolini

description

Mediums: oil, canvas.
Location: the Museum of Art (Gallarate, Italy).

Two dancers are depicted in rapid motion, their legs are intertwined, and skirts furiously fly in the air. Contrasting colours dividing the figures into separate elements make the music on the canvas sound louder, and the movements accelerate their pace. Prampolini loved the theme of the dance; in 1915, he wrote a long article entitled “Futuristic scenography and choreography”. According to the artist, dance, theater, music and painting are in constant interaction with each other.
