Alexander Calder

description

Mediums: аluminum sheet, iron wire, copper rivets.
Location: The collection of Peggy Guggenheim (Venice, Italy).

This work is a vivid example of moving non-mechanized sculptures – “mobiles”, which made the name of Alexander Calder world-famous. These suspended or standing on thin supports structures are so correctly balanced in their shape and weight that they are in constant motion whenever you touch them or when a little wind blows at them. As a material, the sculptor used thin aluminium sheets, uniformly staining them in black and white, red or blue. The author was always inspired by natural forms: the play of glare of light on water, the rustling of tree leaves, flower petals and the music of rain.
