The painting was originally made as a sketch for the play by Lesia Ukrainka “In the Catacombs”, and only then was created as a separate painting in the manner of cubism using the technique of collage. The artist uses conditional geometric shapes for the figure and depicts facial features with just a few lines. At the same time, Petrytsky achieved the maximum expression of the character by his very pose, gesture and facial expression. The locally coloured background plays an important role in the composition – it seems that the mighty person is placed into a cage, the size of which does not allow him to straighten to his full height.
