description

The National Museum of Art, Riga (Latvia).

Collage.

Gustavs Klucis considered the features of photographic technology as a foundation that allows showing aspects of physical reality that eluded the eye of an artisan painter or a graphic artist. The artist’s works are always socially active both in their content and in form. In the 1930s, he returned to easel painting, and this was reflected in his poster photo collages. Working on the plot devoted to the construction of the Moscow metro, the author used many frames of documentary photography, combining them with fairly bright fragments of drawing and painting. The colours and patterns of Klucis always have a symbolic meaning; especially there is often a red accent associated with the flag of the country.
