In the late period of his work, Brauner often resorted to the synthesis of those styles in which he worked at different stages of his creative career. Subjects related to esoteric theories, however, remained constant. He had already created the series of works Philosopher’s Stone”, “The Birth of Matter”, etc. In this picture, the stylized portrait of the alchemist consists of small geometric elements resembling bright, sparkling crystals. They stand out spectacularly on a dull dark brown, similar to “bordeaux” background and symbolize the light that the unique knowledge and personal conviction of such people bring to the world.
