Abstract composition (Pyramids)

author

Vasyl Yermylov

description

Mediums: oil, canvas.
Location: private collection.

This square composition echoed the world art trends. The abstract canvas comes close to the “concept of replication” proposed by the American art of those times. The artist the imprint of a triangle on the canvas, turning its “footprints” into a series of pyramids extending into space. The twilight-cold blue-gray palette with hoarfrost on the tops of the pyramids is replaced by the colour of darkness, which contrasts with warm pink and ocher shades. Faithful to his style, the master uses the same expressive compositional technique as in his early painting “The lady with a fan” – he alternates different-sized triangular shapes that make up an inseparable array. The remarkable feature of Yermylov’s work is slow and strong-willed rhythm. The painting has a hint of his favourite art of icon painting – subtle white strokes-assists. One art expert called this style “mystical constructivism”.
