Abstract Composition in Blue and Yellow circa

author

description

Mediums: pencil, chalk, watercolour, paper.
Location: The Tate Modern Gallery, London (the UK).

The watercolours of the artist of the period of Vorticism (only some of her oil paintings are preserved) have a special character and recognizable style. They have a strong diagonal dynamics, and there is also a sense of unwinding movement as if a powerful spring is unfolding. As a rule, symbolic roots can be distinguished or represented in the work. The abstract composition built in two “windows” – blue and yellow – suggests a person or a car moving up an almost sheer slope, and, for example, a fast skater on an ice track.
