A shirt and a fork

author

Jean Arp

description

Mediums: woodblock, wood.
Location: National Gallery of Art, New York, USA.

In the 1920s, the artist’s objects were forks, shoes, shirts, and parts of the face. All this was associated with the French cafe, which he liked to visit after moving to Paris in 1920. As in other works of the author, there is some ambiguity: the light gray image of the shirt resembles a human face, while the fork resembles a hand.
