Dynamism of a Cyclist

author

Umberto Boccioni

description

Mediums: oil, canvas.
Dimensions: 95 x 70 сm.
Location: Peggy Guggenheim Collection, Venice, Italy.

The central theme of the work is movement and speed, which is the movement of a cyclist. The painting clearly shows the author’s creative experiments, in particular, his desire to depict the mechanism of movement itself, its true essence. The speed of the person on a bicycle does not exist by itself. In a swirling stream, it seems to “draw in” surrounding objects, air and light. In the painting, we can also see Boccioni’s famous “lines of power”, which envelop objects with translucent vortices.
