In this self-portrait, Dottori presents himself among the hills and lakes of Umbria, which symbolizes his deep connection with his motherland. This is one of the first paintings by the artist depicting the Italian landscape in his characteristic lyrical decorative manner, which he later developed and made his main style. The rather stern face of the young artist is depicted in a simplified geometric way, without unnecessary details.
