Vasyl Yermylov

description

Mediums: oil, wood, metal.
Location: private collection.

Working on his reliefs, Yermylov followed minimalism – he used only one or two textures, several colours and geometric figures. The metal sheet created the volume of the head-trapezoid, outlines the face and the surface of the skin, forms a round collar. The neck is one diagonal; the dramatic arches of eyebrows and the straight line of the nose are marked by bulges, while the eyes are marked by hollows. In 1973, the Bargera Gallery (Cologne) bought this relief at Sotheby`s auction; later it was shown at the exhibition of the Russian avant-garde in New York. In 2014, the price of this work amounted to $ 1.7 million.
