Loneliness

author

Paul Delvaux

description

Mediums: oil, canvas.
Location: The Museum of Fine Arts (Mons, Belgium).

The artist always used the theme of the railway and trains. He often introduced elements of stations and tracks into his works, subconsciously satisfying his childhood dream of running a railway station. Pictured from the back, a little girl, who often appears in Delvaux’s late work, stands alone on the platform of a provincial station, as if seized by indecision. The picture evokes a lyrical and at the same time disturbing mood.
