Anatol Petrytsky

description

Mediums: oil, canvas.
Location: The National Museum of Art, Kyiv (Ukraine).

This painting by Petrytsky, then a student of the Moscow free art workshops, can equally be referred to Abstract Cubofuturism and Constructivism, which was popular among metropolitan avant-garde artists at that time. The vertically oriented composition consists of forms resembling fragments of armour, and its colour gamma is interesting. The combination of deep red-brown with steel grey looks spectacular against a bright yellow background. The diagonal makes the whole image look as if it was rotating. The technique of “feathery” strokes, which creates flicker on the canvas, also attracts your attention.
