A buried cube containing an important but of little value object

In 1968, Sol LeWitt, in the presence of several witnesses, buried one of his cubes in the ground, containing, according to him, something important but completely not valuable. The burial of the cube, which the artist made himself, symbolizes his parting with Minimalism. He photographed everything that was happening and placed the images on paper, forming a collage in the shape of a square. The action took place after the publication of LeWitt’s theoretical work entitled “Paragraphs on Conceptual Art” describing the basic principles of Conceptualism. Its primary purpose was to demonstrate not the object of the action but the idea that it contains.
