Private collection.
Acrylic, stained glass, canvas.
The work belongs to the series of paintings “Venice”, which consists of 22 canvases made in an abstract style that echoes the Baroque. The artist used a dark background covered with a thick layer of paint using the impasto technique. Punctures placed in uneven squares outline the space, while coloured pieces of glass reflect light, contrasting with the matte deep-black surface of the canvas. Using such simple minimalist artistic means, Lucio Fontana managed to achieve stunning expressiveness of the picture and accurately convey the atmosphere of the Italian square, immersed in the night darkness.
