Human/Need/Desire

author

Bruce Nauman

description

Mediums: neon tubing and wire with glass tubing suspension frames.
Location: the Museum of Modern Art, New York (the USA).

When words associated with human emotions and desires glow in a pulsating rhythm and constantly replace each other, they acquire different meanings. The proposed form of presentation and bright colours violate the usual perception of the viewer. Nauman has always emphasized that language is a powerful tool. To convey its hypnotic aura, he used neon tubes. The irony, as conceived by the author, is that flickering commercial advertising can be used to solve (or at least designate) fundamental issues and problems of mankind. He demonstrated his openness convincingly, keeping all structural elements, including wires, visible.
