Skyviewing Sculpture

Location: Western Washington University (Bellingham, Washington, the USA).

The sculpture is a cube without a single face, mounted on three small columns in the middle of a red brick square. Despite the fact that the composition has strict geometric shapes and is painted in a local black colour, it seems to soar in the air, causing a feeling of weightlessness. With this work, Noguchi wanted to draw the attention of the city residents to the beauty of nature that surrounds them, so the sculpture is located in such a way that everyone can freely enter the composition and observe the sky through large round holes at different times of the year and in various weather conditions. This work of the Japanese sculptor impresses the viewer with its perfect balance and harmony and makes it possible to enjoy simple things that bring peace and harmony.
