Baz from the series “War games”

The War Games series, which the sculptor started working on in 1989, is a monumental structure made of large trunks of old trees. The master cleaned them from branches and bark, then in some products attached pieces of cloth and other materials with steel hoops. The compositions were placed on metal bases and looked like chariots or artillery vehicles. The author gave unusual sculptures notable names – “Rune”, “Ukon”, “Baz”, which sound like an echo of primitive rituals, a forgotten language or magic. Abakanowicz thus formulated her text, rather filled with symbols than explanations.
