To commemorate the 500th anniversary of the death of Leonardo da Vinci in France, the Musée du Louvre is designing and holding a major retrospective of the painter’s career. The exhibition started today, on the 24th of October.
It is known that the exhibition will be one of the most expensive in the history of France. Leading museums and cultural organisations provide their exhibits. In particular, the Vatican Picture Gallery, the British Museum, as well as the Metropolitan Museum of Art. The Louvre itself has the biggest collection of Da Vinci’s works – 5 paintings, including the famous “Mona Lisa”, and 22 drawings. Recall that the museum began collecting exhibits back in 2015.
Last year, the exhibition was in danger due to complicated relations between France and Italy. The compatriots of the painter could not accept the fact that an exhibition, dedicated to the 500th anniversary of the death of Da Vinci, would not be held in the painter’s homeland. Today, an important question remains open: will the most expensive painting in the world “Savior of the world” appear in the Louvre? Let’s hope that all conflicts are resolved and the audience can still enjoy the masterpieces of the ingenious master.
The exhibition concludes with a virtual reality experience developed in partnership with HTC Vive, allowing visitors to get closer than ever to the Mona Lisa.
