description

Mediums: polished bronze, (the cubic base is made of limestone).
Location: The National Museum of Modern Art, Center of G. Pompidou, Paris (France).

This is one of the two late bronze versions of the sculpture Brancusi made of white marble earlier. The sculptor was so interested in this image that he did not part with it for more than 20 years (the first bust was created in 1912). In the bronze version, the author further enhanced the mechanical aspect of the rather abstract work, which was once inspired by his brief acquaintance with the model.
Brancusi decided to perform this last casting on the basis of the oak version – the twisted spirals of the hair in this material, according to the author, are the most energetic. Waves of the hair running all over the back create abstract dynamism.
