Winter Criminal Term

author

Conroy Maddox

description

Mediums: plywood, gouache, mixed media.
Location: The Tate Modern Gallery (the UK).

Briefly about the painting:

The author wrote about the history of the creation of this work, “Numerous criminal events encouraged me to create this painting.” He meant publications in newspapers where it was mentioned that there were about 300 hats in the wardrobe of the exposed London killer. This explains why five multi-colored hats are piled up on the character’s head. Hats in general often appeared in paintings by Maddox as a result of the influence of the symbolism of the works of R. Magritte. The work itself, partially in a collage technique, has the shape of a notice board, near which a black horse stopped.
