Wind

author

Vera Mukhina

description

Mediums: bronza.
Location: The State Tretyakov Gallery, Moscow (Russia).

At the second exhibition of the Society of Russian Sculptors, Mukhina, besides the female torso made of wood, successfully exhibited this small expressive figure made of plaster. The following year, “Wind”, already made in bronze, was included in the exposition at the International Exhibition in Venice. In the work, the author managed to capture the tension skillfully: the torso, shoulders, the round bent knees of the woman – everything transmits the energy of opposition to a gust of storm. The sculptor explained that the gust of wind comes from behind, and “the character, wanting to stand with his back to the wind, spread his legs, his hair forward, and his arms extended forward and up”. The work does not have an allegory of the pathos of a person’s struggle with the elements, but the reality of such resistance.
