This is an early painting by Paalen, made under the influence of Cubism and the style of the Abstraction-Creation group, which he joined in Paris. The abstract composition is a canvas divided into several parts of approximately the same size but different colour. The central dark part of the painting is occupied by a certain creature, from which a pointed tongue of flame emanates, piercing the calm pale blue surface of the right side of the canvas. The intense bright red colour that the author used for this element of the work symbolizes aggression and a swift attack.
