Pencil, varnish.
The drawing on the wall is made with an ordinary H6 graphite pencil. The composition is divided into fifteen equal vertical sections, each of which is filled with thin lines that LeWitt’s assistants drew using a ruler. The directions and frequency of these strokes are different, so the tonality of the work changes from light to dark in a certain sequence. At first glance, it seems that the dark and light stripes are arranged in random order, but if you look closely, you can notice a certain pattern, which is still not finished and logical. The artist created this work being inspired by bookshelves, where the roots of books form a random rhythm and order.
