Walk

author

Marc Chagall

description

Mediums: oil, canvas.
Location: State Russian Museum (Russia).

The most famous painting, the center of which (and, according to the clear plan of the author, the center of the whole world) are the loving Man and Woman. Two joyful people holding hands are Marc Chagall himself and his beloved Bella. They probably went out of town on a picnic in the spring, as evidenced by a colourful tablecloth spread on the grass, but unable to sit. It is symbolic that it is Bella who is inviting him – she is his Muse. Even when his wife suddenly died of sepsis in 1945, Mark continued to paint her face. Only in 1973, the picture was taken out of the storerooms in connection with the arrival of its author at the exhibition.
