Uzbek Singers

author

Alexander Nikolaevich Volkov

description

Mediums: oil, canvas.
Location: the State Museum of Arts of Uzbekistan (Tashkent).

For Volkov, music was of the greatest value (he also sang and wrote poems); it influenced the plots of his paintings. Just like his earlier painting “The Ringing of Camel Bells”, the canvas “Uzbek Singers” is truly sounding – men selflessly playing the melody are surrounded by bright red roses flying around the teahouse. The painting has more expressionism than cubism – the techniques of dividing into geometric parts are used only in the background. Five figures, which do not have enough space in the picture, are united by a common rapture of the song.
