1985
Mediums: painted aluminum.
Location: the Tate Modern Gallery, London (the UK).
The abstract piece of painted aluminum is designed to be placed on the wall. It consists of two rows of multi-coloured rectangular sections, cells, which have the same depth and height but different widths. The colours in the composition are repeated, but they are arranged in such a way that red with a blue tint does not intersect either vertically or horizontally. In 1986-1993, Donald Judd created several such compositions from sheet aluminum: some of them are independent objects, others, like this work, are designed to be hung on a wall. All colours used in these sculptures were taken from the standard RAL table of commercial shades of industrial paints.
