description

Mediums: oil, canvas.
Location: The State Russian Museum, St. Petersburg (Russia).

The plot picture was painted in the pre-analytical period, when the artist was fond of the methods of primitivism and, to some extent, Cubism and Futurism – styles, the elements of which he used in the future. Tragic figures of people are in a curved interior and architectural space. At the very bottom, those who leave or have already left the world are united by the rhythm of their pose; they are very similar to the gallows and are in the darkest corner of the picture. Near them is the fourth figure in this part, a seated man, clutching his head in despair. The largest standing character is depicted as hesitating (it seems that he has three legs). The faces of people sitting in armchairs reflect a variety of emotions. Perhaps they still have something to lose.
