This canvas was purchased by millionaire Rockefeller in 1960 for 10 thousand dollars from the artist himself; in 2007, the royal family of Qatar acquired this work for 72.84 million dollars, which was the largest artwork price at that time. The painting is made in the traditional for the artist’s mature style manner and consists of several colored blocks with jagged edges. The unusual combination of colors, which Rothko carefully selected and arranged according to his own system, as well as the rather large size of the canvas make a grand impression.
