In the late 1930s, Varvara Stepanova returned to easel oil painting on canvas and created mainly landscapes. The urban view with the airship on the horizon is painted in a post-impressionist manner with the distinctive outlines of the depicted objects and local color solutions. However, the quality of the strokes, as well as the brightness of the used palette, allows the canvas to be attributed to Expressionism. Experts find the visual similarity of the composition with the real view of Moscow from the window of the apartment of Rodchenko and Stepanova.
