The Road to Heaven

author

Robert Milton Ernest Rauschenberg

description

The Museum of Art, Dallas (the USA).

Oil on canvas, silk-screen printing.

Andy Warhol introduced Robert Rauschenberg to the silk-screen printing technique in which this work was made. The artist liked this method of creating paintings, and he performed a series of works using this printing method. The collage consists of a large number of elements. Here you can find references to some events of recent days, such as the Kennedy assassination and the travel of a person in outer space, as well as a reproduction of Rembrandt’s painting, building construction and much more. Creating this work, Robert Rauschenberg sought to convey the world that was modern to him, its dynamics and richness, enclosed in a kind of temporary capsule limited by the borders of the canvas.
