About the painting:
The artist reacted with this Surrealistic painting to the tragic events that had just begun in Spain. The city’s narrow street with very conventionally depicted powerful buildings is flooded with dark blue water, along which brick-red highlights shine like blood. Three fragmentary depicted large figures are static – they, like fragments of statues, stand knee-deep in water. The anxiety of the plot is increased by the fact that the friendly Spanish clear-blue sky is over the impenetrable-deaf and inaccessible-high walls and the southern sun peacefully shines high, as it can be seen from the expressive shadows.
