One of Dali’s most recognizable works. Its other names are ‘Melting Clocks’, ‘The Soft Watches’ and ‘The Melting Watches’. The image expresses a departure from the linear understanding of time. “Soft clocks” symbolize the ephemeral nature of human life, our inevitable fading. The artist got the idea for this picture when he was thinking about the nature of Camembert cheese.
