In this rapidly developing powerful composition of the war period, there is the artist’s optimistic confidence in the future. In the multilayered vertically built plot, his contemporaries saw a new era of huge steel structures reaching the sky and obscuring it. The 30-meter lift with an observation deck is an attraction of the Swedish capital – apparently, sailors having a rest after travelling came there to enjoy the panorama; those are “knights of the oceans” who will always amaze the viewer. For Gosta Nilsson, this is a lovingly repeating motive often interpreted in different ways.
