Mediums: oil, canvas.
Location: the Riga Antonia Gallery (Latvia).
Briefly about the painting:
A small canvas represents a genre sketch on a domestic theme. The artist’s painting is realistic, but she unexpectedly and boldly combines a rural low-key landscape in the spirit of Russian Wanderers of the 19th century and a modern plot portrait. A girl taking a bath is depicted amid rich brocade draperies. Their extremely bright flashy colors – gold and purple with Art Nouveau decor – conflict with the old mill and the barn in the background. This technique is a distinctive feature of Maija Tabaka, who makes the viewers think about the diversity of the modern world in many of her paintings.
