Mediums: watercolour, paper.
Location: The Xul Solar Museum (Buenos Aires, Argentina).
The painting depicts a funeral procession led by a black-winged angel hovering above the ground. The funeral participants depicted in profile remind us of the art of pre-Columbian America or of ancient Egyptian drawings, while the light areoles above the heads of the angel and several characters shine like halo over the heads of the saints. The circular movement, at the end of which you can see the portal leading to the underworld, at the same time resembles Christian paradise and hell, which has lights of a bright flame. In his work, Xul Solar provides an entirely new afterlife, demonstrating a break with the traditional Catholic ideas of life and death.
