Frank Stella

description

The National Gallery of Australia, Canberra.

Printing, relief, gravure printing, stencil, collage.

This work made in several different techniques is distinguished by its large size and elongated form of the base. Researchers of the artist’s creations found seven different artistic methods and sixty-one colour in the work. This abstract composition can be called one of the most expressive and dynamic in the creative legacy of Frank Stella and the culmination of his experiments with various printing techniques known in the 1980s. The author created it based on the famous novel “Moby Dick” by Herman Melville. However, one should not look for absolutely direct coincidences and associations with this textbook work.
