Despite the limited color palette, Buffet successfully conveyed the painful inner state of the artist, most likely his own feeling. As usual, here are elongated human figures and gloomy interior. The model looks out of the window, her back turned to the painter. He stands far away from her, viewing his canvas on the easel. The viewer does not know whether the picture is completed, or maybe he is just going to paint it, considering the future composition.
