The fiery red colour is the main character of the painting. The artist masterfully used all the shades of this distinctive colour and boldly used it in many of her paintings. Cats are a separate theme of the work of Remedios Varo. Many religions and esoteric teachings endow cats with mystical skills and even the ability to look into the other world, in which the author of the painting undoubtedly believed. The fiery cat in the picture seems to be a stranger from outer space, scattering sparks around itself; despite this, it caresses a human being like an ordinary pet.
