The plot of this painting was inspired by the artist’s trip to the valley of the Orinoco River, which covers nearby forests during floods. This world immersed in water, like all the paintings by Remedios Varo, is full of magic and contains a large number of different symbols. The researcher traveling in a red inshell boat looks like a woman dressed in men’s clothes and controls the ship with the help of a complex interweaving of the finest threads. This image is associated with the search for the holy source, the philosopher’s stone, and possibly with the endless search for enlightenment and spiritual development, which the artist constantly sought.
