1920 - 1922
The Museum of Modern Art, New York (the USA).
Canvas, oil.
The work relates to the period of the artist’s short stay in America, where he arranged the release of the author’s wooden toys. By that time, Torres Garcia already had experience working with avant-garde artist R. Barradas and futurist writer Joan Salvat-Papasseit. In this picture of the city landscape, the artist used post-impressionistic techniques, and the earthy-gray muted palette later became a hallmark of almost all the artist’s works. Here, as well as in many of his subsequent works, Torres used inscriptions and numerous details.
