description

The Museum of Modern Art, New York (the USA).

Painted wood.

After working on this sculpture, which Sol LeWitt called “structure”, the artist began to move away from monolithic compositions. Here he used transparent, open forms, allowing you to see the design of the work fully. The sculpture of 1964 has an elongated shape and resembles an extremely simplified human figure, which is hinted at by the height of the structure, approximately equal to the average height of a person. Like in his minimalist painting, LeWitt’s simplified sculptures of this period challenge the idea of the form and internal content of an artwork, eliminating any additional details and leaving only the most simple, basic construction.
