Kenneth Noland began to create clear V-shaped figures, the so-called “chevrons”, in the 1960s. Unlike round “targets”, where each colour resonates with a neighboring one around the entire perimeter, in these pictures, the interaction occurs only between two lines. This opens up completely new opportunities for the artist to study colour relationships and effects. In the work “Shoot”, he alternates warm and cold shades, which are connected at the very bottom of the composition at an acute angle, where its visual center is located.
