Briefly about the painting:
In this work, features of Surrealism and Expressionism can be equally traced. Despite the limited color scheme (shades of blue, ocher and black were used), the artist expressed a powerful tragic emotion. It is not only in exhausted characters running against the wind, but also in a landscape with a stormy sea and an alarming dot of the moon above the horizon. A group of people in a vertically oriented composition is a family fleeing from disaster; a child pressed to the man’s chest looks especially touching. The picture is sometimes reproduced with the name “Escape”.
