Briefly about the painting:
The subtitle of the painting refers to French graphic artist George Hugnet – an important figure in the Dada movement and Surrealism, whose work was highly appreciated by Conroy Maddox. The unusual in color solutions composition (bright yellow floor in the room) is built in the master’s favourite manner – a long corridor, an ajar door, large window openings. The author turns to an allusion from antiquity, depicting the main character in the guise of the Minotaur, and also resorts to extremely contrasting scaling of numerous figures present on the canvas. The plot of the painting refers to the ongoing war, as Hugnet was an active member of the French Resistance.
