About the painting:
The artist created a portrait of the famous Slovakian actress and writer in a manner close to the realistic in his Paris period. The model, depicted by laconic artistic means against a dark, but not deaf background, has not only an exact portrait resemblance, but also a moment of creative pursuits vividly conveyed in her facial expression and pose. After the death of the writer in 1984, her heirs sold the portrait to a private owner. The canvas presented at the art market in 2005 became the most expensive painting at the auction.
