One of the innovations proposed by Arkhipenko and inherited by other sculptors was “sculpture-painting”. The colours of the elements of the composition emphasize the relief, and the volumes are complemented by colours. Feeling the artistic value of the creations of long-time masters, Arkhipenko covered the surface of the elements with paints. In his famous early Pierrot, which has features of cubism and futurism, the sculptor did not separate the colour from the form, as it happens in reality. The technique, once used by the ancient, Egyptian and sculptors of other ancient civilizations, acquired a new avant-garde form in the works of Arkhipenko.
