The painting refers to the transitional period of the artist’s creative career, when he lived in Paris. In this work, features of Cubism can be traced; however, only a part of the plot is represented in his style. Besides that, the artist used a fairly extensive deaf black background, which does not correspond the canons of Cubism. The head and hands of the pianist are depicted surrealistically. Her legs without shoes and with fingers spread like a fan live a completely separate life in the painting. The artist uses quite inharmonious combinations of the palette; the performer’s pose is tense, which is why the music that the viewer can imagine is far from cheerful.
