Overlaid Forms

author

Jessica Stewart Dismorr

description

Mediums: tempera, sand board.
Location: The Birmingham Museum and Art Gallery (the UK).

The curator in Birmingham wrote about this abstract painting from a series of similar works, “We see the acquisition of this work as the first step to fulfilling our commitment to expand the representation of women’s works in our collection. This painting is a good late picture of the artist, who demonstrated her consistent ability to respond in an original and personal way to the challenge of new art at every stage of her career”. In the picture, characterized by the cold precision of the abstract style, when there is only line and form, the author reconstructed the spaces of London – the city with its, as she believed, masculine foundations, which feminine principles try to “overlap”.
