1968
Mediums: concrete.
Location: Spoleto (Italy).
The sculpture was ordered by the head of the city of Spoleto in Italy for the Festival dei Due Mondi. Since Isamu Noguchi always cared about the functionality of his works, he decided to create the work in the form of a design for children’s games, providing it with holes through which children could freely climb inside the sculpture. Initially, the sculpture was cast in concrete, and later the author duplicated it several times in metal, which made it possible to install Octetra in several different cities in Europe and America, as well as in Tokyo. The geometrically simple and concise form of this work perfectly combines with both historical buildings, contrasting with them and modern urban architecture.
